Silver Service project starts off in Ireland to facilitate volunteering of senior citizens

Silver Service – Seniors Supporting Migrant Integration, INNOVADE’s new project that seeks to encourage and enhance volunteering among senior citizens, has kicked off its work with its first partner meeting in Virginia, Ireland. The project brings together a 6-country consortium of organisations from United Kingdom, Ireland, Italy, Portugal, Austria, and Cyprus and wishes to activate seniors through volunteerism to contribute in the efforts to support the integration of migrants.

The project’s team will develop and implement a training programme that will train and support senior citizens to volunteer on initiatives aiming to develop key civic and social competences within the growing migrant communities of their countries. A training curriculum and a suite of appropriate teaching resources will be used for this purpose. The project proposes a mutually beneficial arrangement, by offering to senior citizens the opportunity to remain active contributors to the society while the ongoing migrant integration objectives of Member States are addressed.

The Silver Service project is co-funded by the EU Erasmus+ programme with a duration 24-months.
